‘The Carrot Principle’

Presented by:
Max Brown, Speaker, OC Tanner, Salt Lake City, UT

Who says employee recognition has to be difficult? Using a combination of non-cash recognition and simple training for the presentation of formal awards, many of today's leading companies are successfully transforming their corporations into "Carrot Cultures" - creating workplaces where employees are committed, profitability is high, and retention is among the best in their industries. This keynote presentation illustrates how companies like KFC/Tricon, Avis, and Johnson & Johnson spread the power of recognition across diverse locations and how every organization can implement these simple principles.

Max Brown has taken clients rappelling off the Great Wall of China, facilitated at the Parliament of World Religions Conference in Spain, and spoken to a cheering crowd in the Netherlands. Prior to joining OC Tanner, Max lived in Shanghai, China for five years, running programs for multi-national corporations and setting up a small retail business in 21 locations. With his experience in leadership training, speaking, and facilitating around the world, Max brings a global perspective to the challenge of motivating people. He has a Master’s Degree in Social & Organizational Learning from George Mason University, and a certificate in Leadership Coaching from Georgetown University. Max is a Certified Recognition Professional (CRP), and he is also a member of the National Speaker’s Association and the American Society for Training & Development.

Creating the Future vs Fixing the Past

Presented by:
Doug Krug, Chief Learning Officer and Co-Author, EL Solutions, Centennial, CO

Doug Krug will share insights learned from successfully leading change with top executive teams in organizations including Verizon, Lockheed Martin, Sprint PCS, GM, Corps of Engineers, U. S. Coast Guard and the US Capitol Police. One of the most misunderstood distinctions in organizational improvement today is the difference between fixing what’s wrong and creating what we want. Far too much time and energy is wasted on asking ‘what’s wrong’ and ‘why?’ – questions that cannot be used to produce the outcomes we really want. Discover how to raise the level of commitment and move any initiative forward faster with less stress and effort.

Doug is co-author of two books, Enlightened Leadership: Getting to the HEART of Change (Simon & Schuster) and Leadership Made Simple. For the last 14 years Doug has lectured as part of the MBA program at Johns Hopkins University’s Division of Public Safety Leadership as well as Executive Development Programs throughout the federal government. With a diverse career as an entrepreneur and management consultant, Doug has proven skills for effectively creating powerful organizational results. Doug provides inspiration and information, giving participants tools that are immediately applicable. Groups actively participate in their own discovery through simple yet powerful exercises.
